Come to the last academic seminar of this term TONIGHT at 7:30 in the MCR TV Room!
Elizabeth Wagemann will talk about Flexibility and adaptation. Transition from temporary accommodation to permanent house after natural disasters.
Abstract: After a natural disaster, one of the most critical aspects is the gap between short-term (emergency shelter or temporary) and long term needs (permanent housing). My research focuses on transitional housing built after earthquakes in Peru (2007) and Chile (2010) that are still in use and that families have been improving. Selected settlements were visited and a catalogue of changes on transitional houses built by an NGO called “TECHO” was made, in order to find patterns and similarities in the processes. This presentation shows the process of changing that users make in their temporary homes.
As always, the seminar will be followed by wine and cheese.
