Congratulations on making it through another term and a big round of applause for those masters students that have completed their courses. May Week kicks off this week, so there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy yourselves; starting with our Botanical Gardens Picnic today, followed by the CUSU Garden Party tomorrow, and culminating with our MCR Guest Night on Saturday.
For the research students, this will be your last Gazette for the summer, but you can expect sporadic emails from your Committee regarding summer events. I have on good authority that our CHUyoga will continue through the summer, but lookout for more information about this from your Welfare team.
I’d like to bring your attention to an Extraordinary General Meeting your MCR will hold this Thursday at 18:00. We will discuss the addition of a Communications Officer to the Committee, who’s role will involve writing articles for our website and managing our social media accounts. If you would like to learn more about the position or otherwise discuss anything else relevant to the operation of your MCR please do come along. You can shoot me an email if you would like to add other discussion topics to the agenda.
Finally, what follows is your usual roundup of interesting opportunities and events around the University. I hope you all have an excellent summer.

Invitation to exclusive screening of Nothing Like a Dame – Wednesday @ 19:00
All students and their guests are invited to an exclusive screening of Nothing Like a Dame in the Wolfson Hall next Wednesday 20 June. The film is produced by alumna Sally Angel, in which dames Maggie Smith, Joan Plowright, Eileen Atkins and Judi Dench look back with humour at their long friendship and discuss their careers in theatre and film, as well as some of the more personal challenges in their lives. After the screening Sally and co-producer Anthony Wall, editor of BBC Arena, will take questions. The film is being shown in cinemas currently, so this is an excellent opportunity to see it on the wide screen for free!
There will be a drinks reception on the main concourse at 7pm, with the screening starting at 7.30pm. Please book your free places using our Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/nothing-like-a-dame-screening-and-qa-with-the-producers-tickets-46757338458.
Please send any queries about the event to the Alumni Office.
Botanical Gardens Picnic – TODAY @ 13:00
The MCR has organised a picnic at the Cambridge University Botanic Garden on the 17th of June (Sunday afternoon). Last year it was a big success, and everyone who attended really enjoyed this event. We also had a guided tour last year, so we are planning to do it again this year. If you want to join please email your Green Officer, Kaspars (kk588), for details.
CHUyoga continues – Mondays @ 18:00
Free yoga class taking place in the Bevin Room. Any questions, email Janosz (jwd43).
MCR Extraordinary General Meeting – Wednesday @ 18:00
There will be an extraordinary general meeting held on 21st June 2018 at 6pm in the MCR Sandy Ashmore Room. We will be discussing the motion to introduce a new role for the MCR (Communications/Publicity Officer) who will work directly with the College’s manager, and to change the pronouns currently used in the rules and procedures to gender neutral ones. If we pass this motion through two EGMs, we will be able to hold an election for the Communications Officer in early Michaelmas, so we would like as many people to come as possible for this short EGM.
There will be some form of free snacks on offer for all those who come!
The agenda for the meeting is here, and I hope to see you all there:
MCR Guest Night – Saturday @ 19:00
Guest Night is back again so the Churchill MCR Committee would love to invite you and your guests to Churchill college for our biggest event of the term.
