MCR Gazette / Easter Week 8

Hello Churchillians,gazette

First of all, congratulations to the Churchill Boat Club for winning the Pegasus Cup! This follows the Marconi Cup from the Lent term and no single Churchill crew has been bumped for the whole year! Well done boys and girls!

Secondly, we are finally calling to an end of the Easter term. This would be the last Gazette before the autumn. Please keep your eyes on the MCR Calendar, the Facebook page, and your emails for more upcoming events throughout the summer!

And for those of you who are only here for a year, don’t forget to say goodbye before you leave – we will miss you so much. Please stay with us by all means even from far away.

Finally, enjoy your summer (and deadlines as well if possible) and keep being awesome! It is a pleasure to have worked with you all. As usual, if anything, please email me at

Take care and see you next term!

[14/Jun/2015] 7th Annual River Cam Punt Race – Champion of the Cam

Organised by the Darwin College Punting Association and the Friends of the Cam, the race takes place at 5.30pm Sunday 14th 2015 (“Suicide Sunday”). The course is a straight run from Darwin Island to Trinity Punts.

Just turn up at Darwin Island at 5.15 with a punt and your £5 registration fee. Punts can be hired at various locations on the river.

You may prefer to punt singly (perhaps with a single paddler to ward off the enemy), or as larger crews. Brains or brawn, as you wish. At least one person should punt with a pole.

There are no rules of the race, except to observe the regulations of the River Cam Conservancy.

There is a guaranteed first prize of £80 for the winner – the Champion of the Cam. And smaller prizes for 2nd and 3rd place.

If you plan to take part in the race, it would be helpful (but not essential) if you could let us know in advance by sending an e-mail to

[Ongoing] Recruiting Cricket Players for the Churchill-Pembroke MCR Joint Cricket Team

Churchill-Pembroke MCR run a joint cricket team in the MCR league. After several years of dominance in the MCR league (we won the league for two consecutive years, and lost out in the semi-finals last year), the team is now greatly weakened after the departure of a number of players. We are looking for enthusiastic new players to join the team, with all levels of experience welcome – for example, the team has, in the past, been the perfect opportunity for American baseball enthusiasts to fall in love with “the gentleman’s game”. Contact Arshad (amh200 – Pembroke) if you are interested in playing for the team.
