The Cambridge Develoment Initiative (CDI) ( collaborating with Manzese Secondary School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to improve education opportunities for local students. We are sending a number of volunteers this summer to teach an innovative summer school, using interactive teaching and peer-to-peer learning.

To compliment the work of our volunteers, we are creating learning materials as Open Educational Resources (OER). In order to use innovative software and make the content accessible to all students worlwide, we cooperate with Serlo, the free learning website (

Working with our volunteers to design subject-specific materials, you will need creativity to make learning come to life.

Newnham Garden Party Launch Event [19/02/14]

It’s finally here, the most anticipated garden party in the whole of
Cambridge… Newnham!

The garden party launch event will be Wednesday 19th February in Newnham
College bar from 8pm. Come along to discover the wonderful theme and get

APPLY NOW for the RAG Week ‘TAKE ME OUT’ Event! [21/02/14]

You’ve heard of the show. Now it’s your turn to get involved in Cambridge RAG’s ‘Take Me Out’ gameshow. RAG ‘Take Me Out’ will be taking place on the evening of Wednesday 5th March

**Applications for contestants are open to any student of the University and are open NOW!**

You can apply to be a ‘Main Contestant’ – which is the person who stands in front of the panel of girls and boys, winning them over with your looks, talents, charm or chat up lines. You can also apply to be a ‘Panel Contestant’ – one of the team of girls and boys that get to enlist their interest in the Main Contestant in the hopes of winning a dream date with Mr or Miss Right!

Apply online via the Google form below and we’ll notify you as to the success of your application by Friday 21st February.

There’ll be prizes for all the participants (as well as eternal respect among your peers, of course) and you’ll be helping to raise lots of money for charity in the process so get applying! All proceeds from RAG Week 2014 will be distributed between the RAG ballot charities. Details at

Applications now live for workers at Clare May Ball! [deadline 26/02/14]

To all those interested in working during May Week,

The Clare May Ball Committee have now opened up application for workers!

We will require most of the successful applicants to work half of the event. We will be offering £6.50 per hour worked and the opportunity to purchase a discounted ball ticket for the other half of the event for £80.

We also have a few Coordinator positions available. We require our supervisors to work for the whole ball and are offering £100 for their expertise.

Applications close on Wednesday 26th February after which we will be holding interviews.

The Mays Anthology #22 – Call for Submissions [deadline 09/03/14]

The Mays Anthology publishes the best new student writing and visual art from Cambridge and Oxford Universities. Submissions for publication in the 2014 edition are now open! Special consideration may be given to works that demonstrate formal inventiveness.

INDIVIDUAL: No more than three individual submissions in any mode (poetry, fiction, drama, screenplay, the essay, graphic novel, visual arts, or any other genre), up to a total of four A4 pages. Each piece of work should start on a new page.
INNOVATION: The Mays #22 will emphasize formal and generic inventiveness. We are hoping to see new and exciting interpretations of poetic forms, narrative genres and methods of image creation.
FORMATTING GUIDELINES: Literary submissions should be saved as .docx or .doc and formatted in Times New Roman font, size 12. Poetry submissions should be a maximum of 60 lines; prose submissions should be a maximum of 2500 words. Please state in your accompanying email which, if any, of your submissions are excerpts from longer works. Visual arts pieces should be submitted in .tiff or .jpg format, at a minimum image standard of 300 dpi.
HOW TO SUBMIT: Email your submissions to by 11:59pm on 09/03/2014. Submissions must not have been previously published.
MAYS MENTORING: The Mays Anthology runs a mentoring programme for undergraduates. Places are limited. Please state in your email if you wish to be considered for the scheme. Good luck! We look forward to receiving your work.

Cambridge Hub recruiting college reps

Cambridge hub has launched a new college rep system this term! 
It’s a great way to get involved with the Hub and all the organisations and societies it connects with. If you’re interested in volunteering, environmental and ethical issues, international development….then this could be the role for you! 


Your job would be to publicise Cambridge Hub events and campaigns within your college, and to work either independently or with other college reps to organise an event in your college.
