Churchill Recital Series – Michaelmas 2021

Are you interesting in taking part in an MCR podcast?

Viancqa Kurniawan (Churchill MCR member) has come up with the idea of an MCR podcast to advertise Churchill College to new postgraduate students.

“When I was researching about which college to choose, most of the resources online are from online forums. Usually the comments are from former students who studied back in 2010 (I literally bet my college choice on one person’s comment saying Churchill has the warmest and humblest people in Cambridge). I thought a platform where I can discover some ‘insider’ views would be very beneficial.
Several ideas for the podcast:
  • Showcasing the work/research of Churchill students/fellows/professors/staffs – could be an extension of ChuTalks / Conference of Everything for the wider audience outside of the Cambridge ecosystem
  • Casual chat/stories of Churchill students/fellows/professors/staffs, could be people with interesting background or life story and what led them to Churchill
  • Sitting two Churchill students/staffs from totally different background and have them discuss something
  • Inter-colleges chat/discussion
  • … and more”

We are seeking a team of interested students, who would like to make this idea a reality! You do not need any prior experience – all you need is enthusiasm. Please email rh660@cam.ac.uk if you are interested in becoming involved in the podcast.

Grounds and Gardens Tour – Sunday at 10:00am

When it comes to the College gardens, every Churchillian knows that (a) we’re allowed to walk on the grass and (b) Sir Winston himself planted a few of the trees. But there is a lot more to the grounds at gardens around Churchill College! For instance, the college has an orchid house, containing over 250 orchids. There’s also the Xiaotian Fu Garden, tucked away behind 72 Storey’s Way, with limestone rocks imported from the Three Gorges region in China. The list goes on! Join a tour of College’s outdoor spaces, conducted by Mr John Moore, the head of grounds and gardens.

We will meet at the Xiaotian Fu Garden, behind 72 Storey’s Way (access via Churchill road).
