Here is a round-up of the music events happening before the end of term. From Carolling to Jazz Big Band via folk songs and flute concertos there is something for most music lovers.

The Chapel at Churchill

Inter Alios and Rev. John Rawlinson present a service of lessons and carols by candlelight, followed by mince pies and mulled wine. (note the earlier than usual start time).

Friday Recital Series: Inter Alios Carolling

Friday 3 December, 18:15

Main Hall, Churchill College

Join Inter Alios for some jolly carolling in the Hall. Dinner optional, mulled wine mandatory!

Hugh Wood Memorial Concert

Saturday 11 December, 17:00

The Chapel at Churchill

Director of Studies in Music in Churchill from 1977-1999, and a British composer of great renown, this concert will recognise Hugh’s major contribution to music with performances from many of his most illustrious pupils.


MCR events

CHUtalk – Thursday at 7:00pm

Dear Churchillians,

Come to the CHUTalk on Thursday (25th November) at 7pm to listen to Steven Johnson speaking about How humanity doubled life expectancy in a century? 

We will watch the recorded TEDTalk and continue to discuss the topic.

As usual, the event will take place in the Tizard room as well as wine and cheese alongside other non-alcoholic drinks and other snacks will be served.

Jingle & Mingle Christmas party – Thursday at 7:00pm

To properly commemorate this day, we’ll be throwing a ​Jingle & Mingle 🔔​ party ​(with Christmas themed jumpers) on Thursday, 25th D̶e̶c̶e̶m̶b̶e̶r November. Join us at the MCR from 7:00pm-9:00pm in your ​best warm Christmas jumper for a cozy, chill evening full of activities for everyone to enjoy:

        🎁 White Elephant Christmas Game: Everyone who’s keen in participating in a small, symbolic gift exchange for Bridgemas is encouraged to join on this year’s edition of the White Elephant! For those who are unfamiliar with the name — each participant is meant to bring up a wrapped gift (more or less £5 per gift) and place it on a pile. We’ll then play some games to figure out who keeps which present! Think of creative, r̶i̶d̶i̶c̶u̶l̶o̶u̶s, affordable gifts to make it even more entertaining!
        🎁 Gingerbread house decorating: We’ll provide a few gingerbread houses for you guys to decorate as you wish! Show up in teams and let your inner Christmasy Designer run free! We’re looking forward to seeing your creativity and originality.
        🎁 Free snacks & hot chocolate: Do I have to say anything else?!

Polar Express Christmas party – Friday at 7:30pm

Simply because this is the holliest and jolliest season of the year and we haven’t met a single person so far that hates Christmas, we’re continuing the celebrations by announcing that you’re hereby invited to the ​MCR POLAR EXPRESS CHRISTMAS PARTY! 🎄🎅 

​The event will be held at the MCR Bar in College, at 7:30pm on Friday, 26th November. You’re more than welcome to attend dressed up a tad bit fancier for this event — or in your favorite winter PJ’s, if you’re hoping to catch the next train to the North Pole. Either or, come along for a fun night full of magic, music, and ​Christmas Themed Drinks & Cocktails. 🍷🥂

The Great Churchill Bake Off – Saturday at 3:00pm

Do you want to showcase your baking prowess? Do you want the opportunity to win a Churchill-branded apron?! Do you want to eat lots of delicious treats? Then come along to The Great Churchill Bake Off on Saturday 27 November!

We are hosting The Great Churchill Bake Off on Saturday 27 November from 3:00pm to 5:00pm in the Dining Hall. Attendants will be able to enjoy afternoon tea*, as well as some delicious entries!

Our panel of expert judges (Lorrie, Audray, Rebecca and Conor) will analyse the entrants to find out who is the best baker of Churchill College! There will be a selection of tantalising prizes on offer, including a Churchill branded apron. You can enter as an individual, as a group or as a family!

Drinks and Nibbles – Sunday at 3:00pm

As we hit week 8, take some time out from studies and research to come to the MCR at 3pm for some drinks & nibbles and a chat.

Sign-up for Guest Night – Saturday 4 December

The Churchill College MCR Committee cordially invites you to the MCR Guest Night on Saturday 4 December. The theme of the evening is Greek Gods and Goddesses.

Join us for an electric* evening inspired by Ancient Greek tales, featuring live music, the Churchill Casino and flaming arrows of love**. Sign up now or risk the wrath of the Gods (and Samin)!

Tickets for the MCR Guest Night will be released on Monday 15 November at 5:00pm on the Churchill College formal hall booking system. The tickets will appear here: https://www.chu.cam.ac.uk/internal/catering/hallbooking/. MCR members will be able to purchase one member ticket and one guest ticket.
