A few announcements: first off, welcome to Lent term. We have a few freshers in our midst this term, so do your best to make them feel at home! The term card is currently being printed, but in the meantime check out the digital version (here: L2014 – Term Card). Pay particularly attention to the Refreshers’ activities! Karolis will send a more detailed email about these soon. Speaking of Refreshers’ activities, contact Tim (tr331) for information about getting your MECH Bop tickets.
Burns’ Night is coming up on Jan 25th. This is always a VERY popular event among the MCR, JCR, and SCR. Book your ticket ASAP – it’s already filling up. Features of the evening include haggis, bagpipes, a ceilidh (if you don’t know what this is, don’t worry, you’ll love it), and of course, whisky! We also get the opportunity to hear toasts to the lads/lassies and to the “The Immortal Memory of Robert Burns”. If any of you are interested in giving one of these toasts, please let me know. I’ll open it up to the JCR/SCR if I don’t hear back from anyone in the next couple days. As it falls to me to organise the entertainment part of this evening, I’m very keen to get as many MCR members attending as possible!
Finally, don’t forget about the £s that Churchill offers up every year. In particular, small grant applications are due at the beginning of this term
(get them in within the next couple weeks). Fund your own extracurricular activities with these grants! Conference travel grants
(up to £300) are also on offer throughout the year for PhD and MPhil students. Find more information by contacting me (mcr-president@chu) or from here: http://mcr.chu.cam.ac.uk/useful-stuff/money-matters/
(Also, don’t forget to consider running in the upcoming MCR committee elections)
