Termly General Meeting and Elections – Michaelmas 2020

On Wednesday October 21st at 7:30PM, we will be holding our first Termly General Meeting of the MCR, as well as holding Hustings (i.e. elections) for this year’s MCR Committee.  The following positions will be up for election in the Michaelmas TGM:

Academic Officer

Bar Secretary

Computing Officer

Green Officer

Equipment Officer

First Year Representative

Please click on the link for each role to see a description of the duties of that role.  Of particular interest is the First Year Representative role, who will help organize events for all first year students throughout the year! If you have questions about a role, please contact the current representative, or me (afh41) or Jannat (ji253) If you would like to run for a role please email a manifesto to me by October 19th at 5PM. Example manifestos for reference can be found here.

In addition, we will be adding a new Equality and Diversity Officer to the MCR Committee.  In order to make this change, we will be voting on modifying the rules and procedures to include the addition of an Equality and Diversity Officer, and additionally voting to elect Youzheng Ning and Osarenkhoe Ogbeide as our two Equality and Diversity Officers in the interim.  The new rules and procedures which include this role can be found here and all changes are marked in red.

We would also like to add a Disability Access Officer to the MCR Committee. Please contact me if you are interested in running for this role and we can vote to add you as an interim officer at the TGM.  The changes to the rules and procedures to reflect this are present in the link to the rules and procedures above.

Finally, we will be voting to amend the constitution to allow for holding meetings during shutdown periods. At the moment the constitution states “Extraordinary Meetings may not be held during any College shutdown period.” However, we would propose to amend this to “Extraordinary Meetings may not be held during any planned College shutdown period.” This will allow for the MCR to continue to operate, even if there is a point during which the college is shut down, as we had in Easter Term last year. This vote will be held online, and notice will go out of the vote after Hustings on the 21st.

Please attend the TGM to vote on the addition of this new position, and to hear more about what events we will be holding throughout the term.  The zoom link is:
